Linda Raschke: a woman who conquered markets

There is a typical misconception that trading is not a female occupation. Of course, to succeed in the financial markets one must have necessary qualities which are mostly associated with men: for example, the ability to control emotions and logical thinking. However, the biography of an American woman trader Linda Raschke proves this stereotype is wrong: she is not only able to make a fortune by trading on the stock exchange, but also became famous as the author of books on trading, which reveal various relevant trade secrets.

From trading room to a home office

Raschke began her career as a trader in 1981 - and successfully sells to this day, leaving trading rooms for the opportunity to trade from a home computer with comfort. Linda's father has also tried to engage in trading, but it did not turn out to be successful. Raschke still recalls with pleasure how they both looked through thousands of charts, helping him find profitable patterns and shapes.

After graduating from college, Linda decided to try her hand on the Pacific Stock Exchange, however it was not easy to get there for a young girl without experience. As a result, she got a job as a financial analyst and began learning from her colleagues. Most traders do not take woman traders seriously, however there was a man who believed in Raschke’s potential. She received a loan of 25 thousand dollars - sufficient start-up capital for independent trading at those times.

Success did note come immediately, but Linda was one of those people who is able to perceive the mistakes and learn from them. Consequently, she has paid off debts and started to work exclusively on her own trading model. At the end of 80’s, the car accident almost put an end to Raschke’s trading career. The doctors restricted her to trade in the office, but fortunately the computer technology at that already allowed to conduct transactions without leaving home. Raschke has come to the fact that such trading style suits her even more.

Pregnancy and trading

Raschke can give a lot of advice for beginners, one of which - do not rush to give up on your main job, which supports to pay current bills. This is reminiscent of studies at the university, when students have to look for jobs in the cafe or on the other "black" jobs.
Her attitude towards trading shows one significant characteristic fact. Nurturing a child, Raschke continued to engage in trading. In an interview, she joked that she did not trade during childbirth because it was still early morning, and there was still low liquidity in the markets. However, within a few hours after the birth of her daughter, Raschke has entered into a short position on the currency futures: "I could not afford to miss a good opportunity." And that trade has brought profit!

Linda’s strategy has not changed for decades. She almost does not use any technical analysis indicators, preferring to look for so-called "patterns" - in fact, repeating candlestick combinations. False breakouts are used in most of Raschke patterns. These figures, which work well in trending and flat state of the market, are available in accessible language in her book "Exchange secrets".
